• Brabo and Handwerpen ... In the center of the "Grand Place" of Antwerp (Grote Markt) is a huge fountain showing Brabo in the act of throwing Druon's severed hand into the Scheldt river. According to a 16th century legend, his action of 'handwerpen' (Dutch for 'flinging your hand') led to the city's name. Silvius Brabo is said to have flung the hand of Druon (or Antigonus, according to some authors), a giant who terrorized passing ships.
